i feel a little misunderstood here… first of all i have put more holy stromboli’s on the table than perfect ones. i usually forget to grease the counter top all together and make a royal mess out of everything. thankfully my Italian loving hubby could care less if he can recognize the dish, just as long as it tastes like Italian food. furthermore, i am in no way trying to show off with what may appear to be impressive cooking. i am simply trying to make up for lost time… and you must remember that i have no kids, therefore, i have nothing better to fill 3 hours of my Sunday afternoon with than making 3 stromboli’s. i am sure the days of my “extensive” entertaining will come to a fast halt when a little one is added to the picture. so take heart Natalie, soon i will be as tired as you and you will no longer have anyone to compete with.

I just laughed out loud at work and people think I’m crazy now! What I find most amusing is you’re statement about how “SIL IS Martha Stewart”! Allow me to clear something up for you….SIL couldn’t cook anything but scrambled eggs for many many years…she’s just showing off now! Oh and if it makes you feel any better…I once started to make chicken soup with rice and when it was almost perfect I walked away for 5 minutes and forgot that the stove was on High. Of course I burned the Hades out of my lovely rice soup and of course I tried to “save” it by adding other things and of course I had to throw it away after the man bravely ate a few bites but couldn’t maintain his composure! Trust me burned rice is a flavor you can’t cover up!

Oh my goodness, this was so funny! I think b/c I have done this exact type of thing, too. Seems like whenever I try to bake anything with dough or crescent rolls (like the wreaths and wraps we discussed the other week), I end up with holes and stretched out dough. And the more you try to fix it, the worse it gets! LOL! I feel your pain, sister. But your BIL is right, the taste is far more important than the presentation :)
